MIP:

FAQs

Q: Can IW help me find an intern?

A: Yes! We keep a list of resumes of students who reach out to us looking for opportunities that we’d be happy to pass it along. IW also has a Job Board on our website where we can post your internship opportunity. Resumes will be passed directly along to your designated point of contact.

Q: Do you still have funding for this year?

A: Check our application page. When there is no more funding for the current calendar year’s program, this link will direct you to apply for next year’s program. Apply early and save your spot in line!

Q: I don’t consider myself a manufacturer. Am I eligible for the program?

A: IW MIP funds are open to any business that is an essential part of the production of physical products. This includes for-profit testing laboratories, engineering and design firms, and other companies that are essential to producing physical products. For a detailed list of eligibility criteria check out the bottom of our how it works page.

Q: Does IW supply the interns or can we hire our own?

A: You can absolutely hire your own intern, and you may still apply for the grant if you’ve already hired an intern. You can also apply and ask for help finding an intern. Each year, students approach IW for internships, and we maintain a database of their resumes. We are also willing to share your job posting on our Job Board, which will forward applications to you directly.

Q: Can I hire more than one intern?

A: Definitely! Hiring more interns increases the chances that you will reach the cap on your company’s grant.

Q: Does the internship have to be technical/manufacturing related?

A: One of the beautiful things about manufacturing businesses is that they require all kinds of skills in order to operate. As a result, any internship, from HR to welding to sales to engineering, is eligible for reimbursement through the MIP Grant.
