Manufacturing Intern Program (MIP):

How It Works

Whether you’ve hired an intern already or just beginning your search, we’ll help you through this simple process.

  1. Apply here. This form gives us all the information we need to best assist you.

    1. Applications will be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis throughout the calendar year. Make sure you indicate on your application if you would like assistance finding an intern. We’ll reach out to provide support and request additional information if necessary.

  2. Hire one or more interns and make sure they all complete this form to link their information to your application.

  3. Once an intern is linked to your application, we’ll reach out to confirm your acceptance into the program and begin drafting a program agreement.

  4. Once the program agreement has been drafted (typically 1-2 weeks), we’ll send it over for a signature.

    1. The program agreement details all the specific requirements and deadlines for reimbursement for this year’s program.

  5. Congratulations, you’re officially enrolled in the Innovation Works (IW) Manufacturing Intern Program! We’ll return a fully executed version of the agreement for your records.

  6. Request reimbursement for gross wages paid to all eligible interns 3 times per year (July, September, & January) until the end of the calendar year or your grant cap is reached.

    1. Each reimbursement request should be for 50% of gross wages paid to all eligible interns and accompanied by either 1) a letter certifying the gross wages paid to each eligible intern during the program year or 2) payroll reports demonstrating the gross wages paid and pay period dates for each intern.

  7. You may opt in to direct deposit or you will receive a check in the mail 2-4 weeks following each reimbursement request.

  8. The program ends when you’ve reached your reimbursement cap or at the end of the calendar year.

  9. Participating companies are required to complete IW’s Annual Impact Survey at the end of the program year and the following year.

    1. Here is an example of the impact survey you will receive for 2 years. It typically takes 20-40 minutes to complete.
